CASE WARRIORS
Linda Elena is a mother and member of the New Reproductive Alternative Society. She has been a long standing ‘behind the scene’ organizer and advocate for the rights of children conceived through reproductive technologies. In 1991, while in a same sex relationship, she chose to access a Toronto, Ontario (Canada) based fertility clinic for anonymous sperm donation. Her daughter, now 16, has been raised with full knowledge of the origins of conception. In the fall of 2008, at her daughter’s request, Linda began to help her daughter access any existing health records. Together, they are currently contacting as many donor, offspring and sibling websites in search of any information about the donor and possible siblings. Most recently, her daughter has chosen to have her DNA analyzed to possibly identify other genetic relationships.
Linda obtained her diploma in Nursing (Selkirk College, BC; 1988), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Ryerson, Toronto; 1990) and is currently studying for her Masters of Arts in Integrated Studies (Athabasca University, Athabasca). She is an academic employed in the Faculty of Nursing, University of Calgary, Alberta (Canada).
